Ed Schultz on the USPS: More About The Real Cause of the Postal Crisis

"Republicans want to privatize the Post Office, just like they want to privatize health care, social security and anything else they can think of where they can squeeze an extra buck out of the American public and give them less for their money. Can you spell GREED?" A lame duck Republican Congress in 2006 passed a mandate that required the Postal Service, over 10 years, to pre-fund healthcare benefits for the next 75. This unique burden costs USPS $5.5 billion a year. No other employer, private or public, is mandated to do pre-funding of that nature. All in the name of privatization.
